Unique Experiences

The opportunity to explore the world is a privilege and a blessing. My parents instilled a love for the outdoors in me from a very young age. My brother and I would spend time outside exploring the woods behind our home. Exploration and discovery with him and my neighbors sparked our minds with endless questions about how the natural world worked. We grew to love simplicity. Our family vacations would often revolve around visiting national and state parks to explore beautiful creations, and I hope to continue exploring the world. These feelings of connectedness with our environment are what inspire me to continue to work toward conservation. I want my future kids and grandkids to see the sites that I am able to see today. Beyond exploring, there is a greater need for action so everyone can live safely and healthily. From work in environmental justice, I have seen unjust living conditions where people cannot live in the natural world as they should. Acts of service can help make the world a better place one small step at a time.

Common Home Corps

I am working with a year-long cohort aimed towards climate justice!
Two of my cohort members had the opportunity to address Pope Francis directly last year over zoom through the synod on synodiality; "as young people, we told him climate change is our generation’s most pressing social issue — one that threatens our future, is a profound source of generational anxiety and is inextricably tied to all other social issues." Pope Francis, in response, expressed his encouragement for young people to pursue ecological justice and the importance of working towards a more just, caring, and sustainable world.
These conversations, along with the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for justice in our world, sparked the creation of this internship, sponsored by the Catholic Climate Covenant, Loyola University-Chicago, and Creighton University. This past week was inspiring and impactful as the members of my cohort have directly experienced the unique effects of climate change in their own homes: rising sea levels causing displacement of homes, decreased biodiversity and ecosystems along coastlines, increased temperatures, lack of access to clean water, increased wildfires, etc. As a climate scientist, I am excited to work with this group of young adults and I ask that you pray for and support our continued work towards a world built on harmonious relationships with our neighbor and our home.
